My ride to Grand Rapids (GRR) from Detroit… an old DC-9!!! Sweet :-) I haven’t flown on one of these in years. This one newly painted into Delta colours from Northwest. Originally it was a Republic Airlines DC-9-50 when delivered in 1979.

*Airplanes 101* (See Airplanes 101 Set)

Name: McDonnell Douglas DC-9
Manufacturer: McDonnell Douglas (Boeing) (Long Beach California USA)
Main Role: small -medium capacity, short-medium range mainline jetliner which formed the platform for the MD-80 series and Boeing 717.
Basic design: twin rear engined, single aisle narrow body jet.
Photo: A Delta DC-9-51 built in 1979 for North Central Airlines thus the "NC" in it’s registration. This plane is long out of production but still flies for some carriers like Delta/NWA. In today’s world a DC-9 would be replaced by a larger regional jet like a CRJ-900 or EMB-190 which carry roughly the same amount of passengers with greater fuel efficiency.
