Liverpool-Deportivo Alaves 2001 UEFA Cup Final.wmv
The 2001 UEFA Cup Final was the final match of the 2000–01 UEFA Cup, Europe’s secondary club football competition. The showpiece event was contested between Liverpool of England and Deportivo Alavés of Spain at the Westfalenstadion in Dortmund, Germany on Wednesday 16 May 2001, to decide the winner of the UEFA Cup. Two-time winners Liverpool were appearing in their third final, whereas Alavés were appearing in the final for the first time. The final saw Liverpool win due to an own golden goal. Combined with beating Birmingham City on penalties to win the League Cup and with victory in the 2001 FA Cup Final, the win secured a unique Treble for Houllier and his club. @kirmy1 why?
@duranthebest no
If Alaves had a better goalkeeper, they won..
@Rossifumi999 You know what football really is about my friend!
fuck modern football!
best match ever!
the guy who scored the own goal might kill himself
Alaves deserved to win that cup, you can’t imagine how small is that club, now is in third division or something like that, this was like a miracle, they showed the world that money isn’t everything. As a spanish I’m more proud of that final than all the 9 champions league of Real Madrid.
@eminemdrehybrid Liverpool already has.
THE BEST UEFA CUP MATCH EVER!!!!
what a match! One of the best european finals ever. Gora Alaves!
happy moments! Liverpool always gave the best finals.
the best UEFA Cup final ever played!!!!!!!
i hate the american commentary
@macienty1982 Not a chance this one beats the AC Milan game!
@LFCEOIN Having said all that, I did quite like the Silver Goal rule they used at Euro 2004.
@LFCEOIN It would have made very little difference except that more games that went to extra time – of which there were only two anyway – would have become conservative and have ended up going to a penalty shootout regardless. The Golden Goal rule promoted blind luck as opposed to genuine strategy, and the fact that this goal and the one scored by Germany in the Euro 96 final were both flukeish efforts caused by defensive mistakes suggests that it was a failure.
@Suiram82 im meant generally. the world cup last year would have been better had golden goal been used
@LFCEOIN That was rarely the case, though. Most times it ended up with two cautious sides who held out for the penalties.
hopefully sepp blatter introduces golden goal to the world cup. nothings better than two attacking teams going all out for the win
Nothing will ever beat the ac milan game
@macienty1982 yes yes i agree 100% with you, even though the silverware isnt as great, but the match was one for the memories.
thanks for this vid. One of the best final match ever. Even better then Liverpool against AC Milan
