New variable speed limit signs on I-90 reduce the speed limit as congestion increases, trying to avoid the added congesion of people speeding into the back of a backup. The default limit is 60mph, it could drop to half that depending on traffic and weather.
I haven’t heard whether the system is designed to give priority to express lane traffic, e.g. do the express lanes stay at 60 when the main line drops to 50mph? That could be another time advantage for bus traffic on the bridge.
Taken with a Pentax Optio W60, a very compact waterproof camera with a decent wide end, it fits well in a jersey pocket and works well one-handed while riding.
