Is it me, or does Geno look like Wizard Pinochio?
There is one YouTuber, FlamingRuby, who did a playthrough of this and got nothing but attack boosts on the level-ups for Mario. In doing so, it effectively made Bowser obsolete. I don’t agree with that approach personally (I actually do the exact same thing that you do), but it got the job done.

5:03 Important tip, if you hit the blocks with the coins on the shy-guys on them and nearly empty them, run back to a different area and back for more coins (infinite coins)
I havn’t played this game in MANY years, but I remember, Geno was my fav… but I forget why! lol.

you can jump on house go down chinmey you get a star that way
by going down the slide in the cabin
