Waterlily Pond – At kew Gardens ======================== This is another pond at Kew that has lots of lotus varieties in addition to the Waterlily House which was shown in my earlier video. I really love Lotus flowers and therfore I captured this too.. Giant waterlilies ============= These huge aquatic plants are native to tropical South America. Did you know? ========== Giant waterlilies (Victoria amazonica) were first discovered in Bolivia in 1801 and subsequently named in honour of Queen Victoria The enormous leaves, which grow to over 2.5m across, have a network of protruding ribs on the underside, which give the leaf buoyancy and stability A mature leaf can support 45 kg, if the load is evenly distributed The flowers are large and fragrant, but relatively short-lived, lasting only 48 hours or so. As each flower matures, it changes colour from white, through pink, to purplish-red, finally sinking below the surface.. The pond within the aquaria section contains the Asian form of the giant waterlily Euryale ferox. This plant has huge leaves that can span two metres and are strong enough to take the weight of baby without sinking. On the lower level, there are viewing windows so visitors can see the pond from a fish’s eye view. Close by are separate tanks containing a rhombeus piranha, poison-dart tree frogs and baby water dragons. These displays demonstrate how plants and animals interact in their natural tropical rainforest habitats.

@MoviesMusicNature Chris I know that you really admire nature and yes this place is amazing and I wish I could visit there again…The beauty of the pond is undescribable..Mentioning about the bug ,first I thought this bug is too big for the pond and it is disturbing..But later on I realised without the big bug the pond is useless..The Bug gave a big attraction to it and you know how to spot the best
