25 pounder short, Australian, dated 1943
The short 25 pounder was an ingenious adaptation created because of the Australians fighting in the jungles of New Guinea and Borneo during the long struggle against the Japanese during the Second World War. The gun was radically redesigned to make it much lighter and portable in fourteen loads, The shorter barrel reduced the range to about 10 kilometers but this did not really affect the usefulness of the gun in jungle conditions.
This gun was used by field regiments of Royal Australian Artillery in the South West Pacific during the Second World War. This gun was donated by the Royal Australian Gunners.
