6-52 Soldiers continue Patriot certifications

SUWON AIR BASE — “There will be no room for mistakes this morning,” thought Sgt. Donte Jones, as he and his crew waited for the evaluation to begin, here Oct. 21.
All the hard training that he and his Soldiers, from Delta Battery, 6th Battalion, 52nd Air Defense Artillery Regiment, have gone through in the past months, will mean nothing if they cannot pass the certification. But, Jones knew that he had trained his Soldiers well; and that they were ready.
Finally, the horn sounded for the evaluation to begin. Soldiers yelled out their battle cry as they rushed toward their vehicles and began to prepare their Patriot Missile equipment for a road march.
This will be a common scene for units in the battalion for the next couple of weeks, as the Iron Horse Battalion began its semi-annual gunnery certification to validate its ability to protect critical assets from enemy tactical ballistic missiles.
During this time, Patriot Missile batteries stationed here and at Osan Air Base, will go through the rigorous evaluation process testing every aspect of their skills to perform their wartime mission.
The evaluation will cover the units’ ability to road march and emplace their Patriot equipment, to deter enemy tactical ballistic missiles during simulated air battles, as well as to ensure all of their equipment can be ready for combat within a moment’s notice.
As for Delta Battery Soldiers, their hard work paid off. The unit successfully certified during the evaluation.
