The Girard Corn Exchange Bank, a 14,494 square foot, three-story neoclassical building at 249-251 Arch Street, was constructed in 1902. It housed the bank until 1970, when it was sold to the Seamen’s Church Institute for the use of housing seafarers from around the world.
It was purchased by Yaron Properties in 2003 for .2 million, who had planned to renovate the building. When MTV’s The Real World decided to house the seven residents of their fifteenth season there, they brought in Norm Dodge of Norm Dodge & Associates to undertake a million renovation. The building is currently leased to FUEL (Fostering Undergraduate Exposure on Location) Collection, a multi-faceted collaboration of all things art.
