OSAN CITY – 6-52nd Air Missile Defense Battalion was united on the morning of May 7, in order to complete a three-mile run by the river, here. After exercising, the Iron Horse Soldiers contributed to keeping Osan City clean by picking up trash along the river.
Due to the units’ mission within the Korean peninsula, the Iron Horse Battalion is currently dispersed in several different locations. Hence, May 7 marked an awaited reunion for the battalion.

SUWON AIR BASE — Soldiers of the 6-52nd Air and Missile Defense Battalion got the opportunity to live out their dreams of being rock stars during an Xbox 360 Rock Band competition hosted by the Suwon Airbase Better Opportunity for Single (and Unaccompanied) Soldiers program, at the Community Activity Center here Oct. 14.
A total of six bands, hailing from units at Suwon and Osan Airbase, participated in the popular contest modeled after Battle of the Bands.
A combination of judge panel and crowd reaction determined the winning band.
The contest became highly competitive from as early as first round on, as each band performed their best songs. In addition to showcasing their “musical” talent, each band also dressed to impress.
During the final round, the crowd exploded as the band from Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 6-52 AMD covered Duran Duran’s “Hungry like a Wolf.” The band, affectionately named “Moop” after the fictional band in the television show “South Park,” won the title.
Unsurprisingly, the band members of “Moop,” 2nd Lt. Luke McMurray, Staff Sgt. Kelson Smith, Pfc. John Starks, and Pfc. Marcus Felker, were dressed up as South Park characters during their performance.
To create the atmosphere for Battle of the Bands, BOSS volunteers worked diligently to transform the Suwon CAC into a performance stage, lined up with a professional sound system and lighting. But, the rest all fed off the raw energy of the crowd.
Event officials said that this year’s audience was extremely enthusiastic.
