    As a teenager living in Dublin, I have always thought that Irish neutrality during this war was a smart move by our government at the time. Although the Irish Army itself never fought in the war, thousands of Irishmen joined British regiments to fight alongside the Allies in both World Wars. Our economy, at that stage, could simply not support a role in the war against Germany and Italy. So we actually played a bigger role in WW1 and 2 than people think.
