BUS Hits Pedestrian on New Oxford Street 27 10 2011.wmv
This is the second time I have witnessed an aftermath of a Bus vs Pedestrian accident in less than two months. The sidewalks are always bursting with people during the rush hours. I see many pedestrians sharing the road with vehicles and cyclists. Should those key aereas have railings?

@barrijayne That is incredible. It must be a awful to witness such a thing. I hope your daughter is feeling better now. I agree with you regarding whether having railings or not would make any difference because I do see people spill or jump over railings just to cross. Many pedestrians are not as road savy as they should be really.
There is an upload I will be doing early today where I pointed to a lady about to walk into the path of a Double Decker Bus. I think she smiled in embarrasment.
My daughter had the misfortune to witness this accident, has she had been standing right next to him. She had seen the bus and waited but he just walked straight into the path of the bus, so the impact happened directly in front of her. I can only imaging how awful this was for her, she was absolutely devastated. I hope he survived…She doesn’t believe the bus driver was at fault. Railings don’t make a difference, pedestrians need to remember the simple Stop Look and Listen because it works.
@daniel32885 the recent one I filmed some weeks ago..there were railings..some walk outside of the zone. Looks nasty with all the cops there and the ambulance gone..not looking good for London buses at the moment though. Many of the Drivers are reckless…and you have some really really good ones.
I hope the victim is recovering in Hospital.
When cycling in many of these busy areas, my speed is reduced because anyone at anytime can suddenly jump in front of you.
Oh dear, oh dear! Goodness, when I lived in London in my younger days I witnessed alot of incident aftermaths, they are simply all to comman in London. Railings should be introduced in these areas, Stop, Look, Listen simply isn’t enough for some people. Mind you, whats to say the ped didn’t stumble off the pavement… all so many soloutions!
The bus had been there a while, the road was dry underneath it but the road around it was wet
Oxford street is well known for this sort of accident, full of tourists and locals. The locals know how to cross the road but the tourists just follow when they really shouldn’t.
@trumpettom001 It looks very very bad..the fact that a Police Cordon was on seems like a fatality
Ouch – looks nasty. I’d like to think it wasn’t fatal – I’ve made a similar mark on a car windscreen – but landed shoulder first which healed really quickly… the angling of a bus windscreen increases the likelyhood that a head injury was involved though….
I hate railings, but I also hate people who blunder heedlessly into the street.
@PeowPeowPeowLasers Moms the word… Green cross code… but these days..its Ipods, Cell phones and distractions..Blam!!
That looks like a hell of a clout.
I don’t like railings. Whatever happened to „stop, look, listen“?
I hope the pedestrian will be okay.
Crazy that we allow smokers to do 30 in city centres. They clutter the place up and block progress for peds and more practical vehicles.
@SonofthewindsInc Yep, good road users know that you can’t go fast along there, and that sometimes it’s better to take some of the parallel streets.
Mikey is right here, railings wouldn’t do anything, either the person didn’t look or the driver was driving too fast.
@CyclingMikey Oxford street is lethal..people spill onto streets easily
Commenting completely generally and nothing to do with this incident, from what I understand, railings don’t improve safety, they do nothing more than encourage drivers to drive faster.
