Trains no longer bring visitors to Strathpeffer, but the Victorian railway station still stands, having been restored to house craft workers and their shops. The Old Railway Station is also the home of the the Highland Museum of Childhood, a superb exhibition about childhood in the Highlands of Scotland and which covers subjects as diverse as toys and play on the one hand, and child labour on the other. It is open from April to October.

I got this Quicksilver G4 in March 2002, and I’ve used it nearly every day since. It’s hard to believe that I’m still using the same machine for video production that I used back when we still had dial-up. But with upgrades, you really can keep your system powerful.

I got USB 2.0 a while ago, but I’m not sure if I ever took a picture of it. I felt like I needed to take an updated picture since I posted this one earlier. Looks like I have one more PCI slot left.

So, current specs of my precious system:
- Dual 1GHz PowerPC G4 processors
- 1.5 GB factory-installed RAM
- Dual 250 GB ATA hard drives
- 6 stable FW 400 ports and a 7th finicky one
- Two FW 800 ports
- Two USB 1 ports
- Two USB 2.0 ports (plus a third that’s internal)
- ATI Radeon 9800 Pro graphics card with DVI, VGA and S-Video
- Airport Card (802.11b)
- Gigabit Ethernet
- 56kbps V.90 Modem
- Capable of booting into OS 9 (and also runs Classic)
- SuperDrive (2X DVD-R)
- ViewSonic VG920 19" LCD
- Samsung SyncMaster 730B 17" LCD
- Lacie D2 160 GB FW 800 drive
- Das Keyboard
- Logitech MX-1000
- SanDisk ImageMate 12 in 1 card reader
- 60 GB iPod photo
- iSight
- Canon Digital Rebel XT
- And an elderly Sony TRV-900 that still gets the job done.

By the way I took this picture after only moving my computer a few inches from the wall. I’m glad it turned out well.
