Otterbox Defender Case for iPad (Review)

Weighing in at 12 ounces, the Otterbox Defender offers three layers of protection for Apple’s iPad. This thing is beefy and probably the closest the iPad can get to being drop/toddler proof. The case features a high-impact polycarbonate, two-piece shell which is then encased in a silicone skin. The third layer of protection is the included screen protector. The case also includes an external plastic hardshell that could be consider yet another layer. That hardshell is removable and acts as a stand for tabletop viewing. Like the Commuter case, the Defender also offers a removable dock door to docking with iPad accessories such as Apple’s iPad Dock and iPad Keyboard Dock. The Otterbox Defender is available in black and sells for .95. www.otterbox.com Looking for more iPad accessories? Check out the iPad playlist: www.youtube.com

A review of the Otterbox Commuter Series Case for the Apple iPhone 4. It’s an all around great case if you’re looking for a balance of protection and thinner less bulkier design. My only gripes are the small manufacturing defect my sample had and the fact that the apple logo shows through the back and there’s no sticker provided which protects it. Enjoy the review and go check out their site. Thanks to Otterbox for providing me a sample to review :) . 9. Does anyone know if the beats headphone jack thing fits nicely in this case. Because it is like an L shape. I know some cases are different

  10. Great review! Mine did not come with a screen protector either. You can also snap the backplate on the screen side of the case to add a layer of protection to the screen when its in a bag for example.

  11. this case is so cheap now. Saw it on amazon for $19 shipped. Thinking on getting it.

  12. @nwi17 fake maybe?

  13. Awesome review. Concise, perfectly paced, and very informative. Thanks keep up the great work!

  14. Best case out there!,

  15. This is a must have if you want MAXIMUM protection. My 2 year old son dropped my iPad from at least 2.5 feet above the ground. No scratches, dents, dings or software problems. I do suggest buying the cases from amazon or buy.com…I bought mine (all black) for about 50 bucks. Also the rubber outside case is very slip resistant!!!

  22. @Final0RDER Just because it’s protected doesn’t mean you should make a new, special effort to break it. It’s just some insurance.

  23. nice review! and for those below who are looking for an iPad for FREE for providing an opinion or testing it, google for: freegiveawaysonline.info

My 17 years old son just received one not long ago and I couldn’t believe my eyes! Don’t thank me ..

  24. @Final0RDER do it and post the video

  25. OK now I want to see what would happen if it got dropped.

  26. What a faggot. Whining about a tiny, Barely noticeable gap. Give me a break.

  27. you suck at doing reviews on otter boxes you got a lot of facts wrong

  28. I just received my own Otterbox Commuter. It was made for a 4, but I put it on my 4S. The mute button is just at the edge of the silicone but does not overlap or go under it. Everything else works.. .proximity sensor, volume, headphones, all 3 mics, dock connector, power button, camera and flash. My 4S also has Ghost Armor applied to it all over.

  29. @MrFilipinoNick They came out with the 4S cases recently luckily ^^

  30. will the screen protector affect any of the phone’s functions?

  31. @elusivellama well i mean i know all of them but I’ve mainly been focusing on the defender lately and that was on my mind sooo…. hahahaha

  32. @murphyman7892 Yeah, I realized that you were talking about the Defender, so it’s okay… (its a popular model, the commuter isn’t as well known)

  33. @elusivellama o my god hahahahahaha I’m so sorry!!! i was talking about the DEFENDER!!! lol I’m sorry. your right.

  34. @murphyman7892 I will test the truth of this tomorrow morning and will update. However, there is no plastic part anywhere on the screen of the iPhone 4 and 4S with the Otterbox COMMUTER case. Maybe you’re thinking of the Otterbox Defender, in which case I can see the plastic part covering up the proximity sensor.

  35. @elusivellama the plastic part covers up the proximity sensor

  36. @murphyman7892 Actually it will. Do you even read the comment before you post? What part of „I walked into a Bestbuy and asked to try the case on my 4S“ did you not get?

  37. @elusivellama actually it won’t

  38. This WORKS with the 4S. I have it and everything works as normal (camera, proximity senor, etc.)

  39. What people are confused about is the ‘larger aperture’ on the 4S camera, going from f2.8 to f2.4. To most people, this means a larger camera unit…but if you compare a 4 and a 4S, the camera unit is the same size. It’s the aperture (the width of the hole which lets in light) that has increased in size, not the camera unit. Still, Otterbox’s decision to increase the camera cutout is a good one because it totally eliminated the element of risk when it comes to designing the case for the 4S.

  40. I don’t understand why this won’t fit the 4S. I walked into a Bestbuy and asked to try the case on my 4S (which has a full-body ghost armor application) It went on without any issue and everything except the micro-sim card slot was easily accessible and worked perfectly. The camera and flash fit perfectly in the tear-drop shaped cutouts and were not obstructed. The micro-sim card slot was only slightly obstructed by the silicone…but no big deal.

This case WILL fit a 4S.

  41. Could you clarify if this does fit the iPhone 4S? I have one and don’t have a case and this seems good but some people seem to have doubts

  42. I just bought a commuter. Like it and don’t have that gap you were fussing about.

  43. Test and keep an iPhone 4s for free at fresh-phones(dot)com

  44. @gourmetvideo123 the case does fit the iPhone 4S. I just got it from Verizon its says iPhone 4 and fits fine.

  45. @MrFilipinoNick it will work for the iPhone 4S. I have the 4S and the case made for the iPhone 4.

  46. I know of a company that is giving away the iPhone 4s! Text (txtme iPhone) To (368638) to get it.

  47. They need wider camera space too

  48. Buy a case that fits the Verizon iPhone 4 for the 4s!

  49. @gymnastgyrl Right now I use an Incipio Feather, but I like swapping out with a Pinlo Slice 3 as well. Hope this helps!

  50. @MrFilipinoNick Thanks for the tip, if you were to purchase a new commuter now, I believe it should according to Otterbox. Sorry for the confusion!
