Unlike Mouse Trap, that Boing „action game“ didn’t catch-on… You see, the age-span during which you were old enough to have the engineering capacity to make it work, but still young enough to think that sort of thing was fun, was measured in minutes.
I had that Smash up derby set but it wasn’t called that here in the UK. I seem to remember the words ‘stock car’ somewhere. Same cars though.

I’m in my late 20′s. and I’ve noticed current toy commercials sound and look the same as those when I was a child. Just the quality is different.. It’s as if nothing has changed. Very spastic stuff.
But early 80′s and 70′s commercials seem a lot different.

and we used to climb trees, build dams, make dens and play knock down ginger.
Not to mention swimming in rivers, cooking spuds in a fire til they were charred black and then eating them !
How did we survive ! and you know what, I don’t think I ever heard of anyone having an eye out playing conkers !
AND… We used to eat any old shit that was put on our plate, cos our parents were hard up and that’s all there was.

Smash up derby was a really cool game. What could be more fun then smashing cars?
Had the Smash up derby cars, came with enough small parts to choke every kid in the neighborhood. toys were dangerous back then.
Most of those games never worked !
