DATAGRO: MOBILE TECHNOLOGY FOR SMALLHOLDINGS FARMERS

This multimedia presentation is an animation of DatAgro, a mobile agriculture project designed to strengthen the economic and social development of smallholdings farmers by providing relevant information for decision-making via text messages sent to their mobile phones. The initiative began in early 2009 with the COOPEUMO agricultural cooperative in Chile´s O’Higgins region. The project, funded by „The Knight Foundation,“ and directed by DataDyne.org, a leading developer of mobile technology solutions for developing countries, was designed and implemented by the Zoltner Consulting Group, a Santiago-based social enterprise. Since its inception, DatAgro has become an essential tool for agricultural activity COOPEUMO, one of the largest farming cooperatives in Chile.
